Introduction to the course Science subject requires that learners must be taught scientific concepts and develop necessary process skills. They learn within inquiry based learning approaches in which they are involved in formulating and testing hypotheses, designing and conducting experiments and investigations. Mastery of these skills and scientific concepts can essentially be realised when pedagogy is supported by the use of effective multimedia resources. Most schools many of which are located in less affluent sectors of society are inadequately funded and scarcely resourced. Because they cannot procure the required learning and teaching support materials, it poses a challenge for teachers to conduct scientific investigations and experiments. The concept of virtual labs is a useful option that needs to be exploited by such schools as it provides what a traditional lab is able to provide.
